Produce

A large portion of the produce is locally grown. The bananas are the freshest around.

Always in Season

You want the best quality fruits and vegetables at the best price... and that's what we deliver! The Market Place Produce department hand-picks the freshest produce.  If it's not quality when it reaches the store-- it doesn't make it to the shelf!

One way we keep costs down and monitor quality is by partnering with local vendors.  We're not a chain store, so we can get enough supply from smaller farms.  We look for the best looking, best tasting produce we can give you at the best price.  Check back with this site to see what varieties we are carrying.

Since we opened...

Our Produce manager, Sandy McMichael has been working here with our fruits and veggies for over 20 years. She has received the United Fresh Retail Produce Award for her excellent management and use of wide variety of products.

How did you start in produce?

Sandy began working here two days before our store opened to the public.  Over the course of years, Joe asked her three times to be the produce manager.  She finally said 'yes' in 1993, and the produce department has run under her management since.  "I've often said the produce department has my signature on it.  I want quality; therefore I want to be proud of it."

What do you do when you are not in Produce?

"My husband and I enjoy frequent trips to the Carribean," Sandy says.  Sandy has been to muliple islands in the Carribean, and is very good at making co-workers jealous when she goes on her annual trip.

What is the best product in Produce?

Our hand-cut pineapple and mixed cut fruit is the best.  It is cut in the store, which means it is fresh.   Sandy's personal fruit favorites include strawberries and watermelon.  "I can't stand apricots," she says.
